MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH
OCTOBER 2, 2026
MAY 15, 2026
As the founder and artistic director of Paracosm Dance, she’s built a kaleidoscopic world where movement is the first and final word, and where story, sound, and spectacle collide in gloriously messy, emotionally raw, and defiantly queer expressions of the human condition.
A dancer, choreographer, and filmmaker, Johnson doesn’t just choreograph bodies—she orchestrates experiences in collaboration with a powerhouse team of composers, designers, and visual artists.

Through and through, VISITORS is unsettling and thought-provoking. And its cast - a motley crew of highly-articulate, gorgeous dancers - made it spectacular. Both together and on their own, the main trio of humans (Johnson, Alicia Nascimento Castro, and Rayshawn Watkins) moved like violent water, or wind, as they flung, tugged, slid. Nowhere was there a moment of hesitation.
AN INDISPUTABLE SUCCESS.

WORDS ON DANCE

VISITORS, Paracosm Dance's two-act contemporary dance theatre work, is a gripping plunge into dread and raw emotional intensity, made unforgettable by Alyssa Johnson's fearless artistic vision.
As a choreographer, Johnson demonstrates extraordinary command of atmosphere and pacing, weaving multimedia, sound, and movement into a cohesive world that feels hauntingly intimate. As a dancer, she is one of the most compellingly precise practitioners of her craft and is visceral, unafraid to inhabit the darkest emotional edges of her work.
